“ I wanted to share that this past weekend I swapped out my cold and warm weather clothes.  I tried on a few pairs of pants that last fall had been significantly too small on me, and had been in a box labeled "too small pants."  Now, they fit great!  I was so surprised!  Never in my life have I gone down in clothing sizes. I've always gradually gone up in sizes, which was frustrating.  I also have a few pairs of pants I wore last fall and winter that now are too big, which has also never happened before.  I changed the label on the box to "too big pants."   What a feeling of triumph!

Wow.  It's clear evidence of how my doing MAD Fitness classes has made a difference.  It's been almost 7 months of my commitment to doing classes at least twice a week and often three times.  I realized that lately I've felt pretty satisfied with how my body looks, which is also a new thing.  Also, I know it's more than size and looks. I generally feel more confident!  And I think I'm stronger.  In particular I had never done any regular strength training exercises, and I appreciate how that has made a difference for me.

Thank you all for your teaching and encouragement!  “

“Many thanks for all your help, advice and suggestions. I am stronger, more flexible and above all not fearful of trying new exercises. Thanks for finding adaptations such as ways to perform exercises with wrists in alternate positions.”

“Back in March, almost a year ago now, I went to your MAD Strength class totally unsure of what to expect, only knowing that I wanted to be able to use my body in a different way. I had never thought of myself as strong or physically capable, and I was ready for that diminishing approach to my sense of self to end. A shy and nerdy kid, the gym was never a safe space for me growing up, and social anxiety gave me lots of reasons to not go do unfamiliar things with unfamiliar people in unfamiliar spaces.

I'm sure you hear this all the time, but your class truly changed my life. I don't remember what exercises we did that day (actually, that's not true - I recall being baffled by the concept of battling ropes), but I do remember very clearly how I felt walking home afterwards, which was totally amazed that a space like MAD existed. I so appreciated the warm, pressure-free vibes, where all that is asked is just to try something. The range of people present - younger and older, different gender identities, different races, different body shapes and sizes - made me feel like I had a place there. Anything I didn't know how to do, which was pretty much everything, was relayed to me without expectation or demand. Perfectionism does not exist at MAD. You and Sue have created a very special place.

One promise of your class was that it would help me learn how to craft my own workouts, and that's absolutely true! It gave me a foundation that allowed me to accelerate into intensive kettlebell and HIIT training within three months. What's also remarkable to me about this year is not only how much physically stronger I've become, but emotionally more resilient as well. I wasn't prepared for the inner work that has emerged from workouts - how it helped create spaciousness, perspective, clarity, calm. Also, it's been important to me to be in women-owned and operated gyms, as that has helped me reclaim a sense of my own belonging in athletics spaces, and to take up more space physically in general.

Due to distance I haven't been able to sustain going to MAD, and I miss the sweet, homey, chill feeling of your gym. Although I am sad that life circumstances make it hard to make it out there, I feel tremendously grateful to have experienced MAD at the exact right moment in my life to awaken into a new sense of what I am capable of.”

“Just a quick note of thanks! Candace and I are in Kerala, India, enjoying tea country and thought gratefully of you when we took a 4-hour trek, uphill, then down, without any problems or post-trek aches. Thanks for making our lives -- and travel -- better!”

Ryan

I’ve been going to MAD fitness classes for years, and I intend to continue coming as long as it’s here. I place a lot of demands on my body, including playing hard at ultimate frisbee into middle age. I feel that Sue and the functional fitness awareness she brings to classes helps me reduce the likelihood of injuries. The environment is comfortable and welcoming. Whenever I feel like I’ve gotten an injury from frisbee or another activity, I see Sue. Following the exercises she gives from a single coaching session me helps me improve how I’m using my body and recover.
With gratitude, Ryan.

I am a man of 83 who has been working with Sue Immerman for several years now.  I think the world of her and I strongly recommend her to anyone seeking to get healthy and to restore themselves to their prior fitness levels or beyond.   Sue knows a great deal about the body and can design many exercises that are just what you need.    I am impressed with how she knows me and can gear many activities that push me yet always without going too far.   She is sensitive to me and listens to what I can do.  I like working with her.  She has a very pleasant manner and can joke or be serious depending on where we are at.    Be confident that she knows what she is doing and can design a program that is right for you.
